Marcel Boucher

1950s Marcel Boucher Pearl Grape Brooch and Earrings Set

Such a fun 1950s set from the renowned Cartier-trained jewelry designer, Marcel Boucher. The brooch and clip-on earrings feature faux pearl grape clusters and gold-tone grape leaves. Boucher's pieces were notable due to their excellent design and high-quality materials. Often they were made to look 3D. The brooch measures 2 3/4" long x 1 3/4" wide. The clip-on earrings measure 1 3/4" long x 1" wide. The brooch is signed 'Boucher' on the back with the serial number 2083. One earring is marked 'Boucher' on the back and one is marked '2083E'. The set is in beautiful condition.

Marcel Boucher (1898-1965) was one of the most talented designers of American jewelry of the 20th century. He was born in Paris and started out working for Cartier in Paris as a mold-maker and apprentice. In the early 1920s he transferred to Cartier in New York where he was a jewelry designer. During the Great Depression, the demand for fine jewelry waned and Boucher found work at the costume jewelry company, Mazer Brothers. He worked there until he started his own company in 1937.
