1950s Silk Scarf Illustrated by Raymond Peynet
1950s silk scarf featuring pastel colored drawings of a couple in love. It was illustrated by cartoonist Raymond Peynet (16 November 1908 – 14 January 1999). Peynet was a French cartoonist. He is best known for having created "Les Amoureux" (The Lovers) characters in 1942 which he represented through a variety of mediums. Here Les Amoureux are depicted on a silk scarf. The scarf measures 9 1/4" x 35 1/2" and has a "Roger & Gallet" tag sewn on the back. The Roger & Gallet store was located at 32 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris from 1932 to 1984. The store was a significant address for Parisian high society. It sold mostly perfumes and soaps. The scarf is in very good condition. There is one small area hat is barely noticeable where a little of the pink dye has transferred onto the white background - probably from being stored in the same folded position for a long period of time - see photo #8.
