1960s Kenneth Jay Lane gold and blue enamel Maltese cross brooch. It measures 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" and is marked 'K.J.L.' on the back - this is the signature that Lane used in the 1960s. It is in very good condition with slight wear as would be expected for its age. 

Kenneth Jay Lane was born in 1930 in Detroit, MI. He founded his costume jewelry firm in 1963. His designs were so popular that his initial collection at Saks Fifth Avenue sold out in one day. Lane’s jewelry has been worn by Diana Vreeland, Jacqueline Kennedy, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, and Diana the Princess of Wales. One of Lane’s best known pieces is the three-strand imitation pearl necklace that was worn by Jacqueline Kennedy. Lane has appeared in Andy Warhol films, was mentioned in a song by by Lou Reed and appeared on numerous Best Dressed Lists.
